Jón is 47 years old, single, and childless, and despite his own lack of interest, he accompanies his uncle to net the lake.
He is a musician and an assistant teacher. He has inherited the fishing cabin and the license to fish in the lake. He has never attempted fishing before and has no interest in it. Now he must learn how to fish, where and when, how to maintain the fish stock, and how to process the catch.
His uncle berates him.
Why don’t you find yourself a girlfriend, Jón?
Don’t know – I’m afraid I’m not much of a catch.
The criticism increases the tension between the two, and the relentless questioning forces Jón to reevaluate his life. Is he really content with his life as it is?
It may sound dull, but it is quite funny, interesting, and delightfully quaint.
